A winning product elsewhere isn't necessarily one in Algeria: purchasing power, COD buying habits, and delivery costs change the equation. Here's a simple method to validate a product before investing in ads.
The criteria that really matter
Margin large enough to absorb 20–30% COD returns.
Selling price compatible with an impulse purchase (ideally under 5,000 DZD).
A visual product that demos well in a short video.
A supplier able to deliver in volume without stockouts.
Where to find product ideas
The best ideas come from what already sells. Meta's Ad Library shows the active ads of Algerian stores, TikTok reveals the products people react to, and local wholesalers know what moves in volume. A product several sellers are pushing at once has proven demand: what's left is finding your angle — a better offer, a better video, better service.
Suppliers: local or imported?
Sourcing locally, from wholesalers or importers, lets you test fast, with little stock and short lead times. Importing lowers the unit cost, but it ties up cash and adds delays: keep it for products you've already validated. Either way, order a sample and check the quality yourself — a disappointing product turns into returns and bad word of mouth.
Calculate the real margin, not the gross margin
The margin on paper melts fast once delivery fees, returns, and advertising are subtracted. Always simulate your net margin before launching a significant ad budget.
An example: a product sold for 3,900 DZD, bought for 1,200 DZD, with 500 DZD of advertising per order received, shows a 2,200 DZD margin "on paper". But if 25 orders out of 100 are refused, you still pay for the advertising of all 100 orders and the fees of the 25 returned parcels — for only 75 sales. Redo the math with your real numbers before raising the budget.
Validate before ordering stock
Run 3 to 5 different creatives over 3 to 4 days, on a modest test budget.
Judge the cost per order, not just the cost per click.
Track the confirmation rate: many orders but few confirmations point to a price or trust problem.
Only order stock in volume after a run of confirmed and delivered orders.
