Home delivery or stop desk? There is no universally correct answer: it all depends on the wilaya, the product, and your observed return rate. Here's how to decide, zone by zone — and how to offer both without losing orders.
Stop desk or home delivery: what's the difference?
With home delivery, the courier brings the parcel to the customer's address and collects payment on the spot. A stop desk (also written "stopdesk") is the delivery company's pickup point: the parcel waits there for the customer, who comes to collect it and pay at the counter. Yalidine, ZR Express and most Algerian carriers offer both modes.
These ranges are indicative: exact rates depend on the carrier, the parcel's weight and the destination wilaya.
Start with data, not intuition
Before setting a per-wilaya delivery policy, look at your history: return rate, average lead time, real carrier cost. Wilayas far from Algiers often have a home-delivery return rate two to three times higher than stopdesk.
Home for impulse, stop desk for distance
In big cities and for impulse purchases (fashion, accessories), home delivery converts better — the customer doesn't want to travel. In more remote wilayas or for higher-value products, stopdesk clearly reduces the refusal risk.
Algiers, Oran, Constantine: offer both, home by default.
Southern and inland wilayas: stopdesk by default, home as an option.
Products over 5,000 DZD: favor stopdesk to limit the risk.
How much does stop desk delivery cost?
For the same wilaya, stop desk usually costs 100 to 200 DZD less than home delivery: the carrier doesn't have to cover the last mile to every address. That gap matters. On a 2,500 DZD product, it's sometimes enough to tip a hesitant customer — provided they see it before ordering. Always show both prices side by side in the order form.
Offering both without losing orders
Show the home and stop desk prices on the product page, not only at checkout.
Preselect the best-suited mode for each wilaya, without ever blocking the other.
Repeat the pickup point's address during the confirmation call.
Notify the customer when their parcel reaches the stop desk: a parcel that isn't collected in time goes back to the sender.
